Initially making my story longer seemed easy. I knew a novel was long, but I was flying through my short story with ideas galore. Now reality has hit.

Down at the learning hub a book awaits. Inside are the stories from everyone in the writing class and the first copy has officially been collected.

My story is at a point where the group are stood in front of a wall, trying to gain entry to some ancient temple grounds. It is here that I’ve come unstuck. I am both literally and figuratively at a brick wall.

After completing the exercises we put everything together in an outline. I’ve mentioned this a few times, so I thought I should share what I have.

Once the workbook was filled in we had a story all planned out. This is the part where I expected to go around in circles singing Hakuna Matata in my head and overthinking everything I’d planned so far.

As we started to progress I quickly realised that the most difficult aspect of this process was going to be organising my thoughts. I’d always assumed the ideas for a novel were the hard part, but apparently not.

The first topic of discussion was idea generation, and this has always been a weak point for me. I want to write but finding things to write about? That’s the hard part.

Going back into a classroom as an adult was an odd experience. As a 40-something woman, it’s been a minute since I’ve been inside an educational institute.
